The Applied Artificial Intelligenceprogram is a 120-credit, 4-year B.S. program. Out of the total 120 credit hours,27 will be CECS core courses taught by CECS full-time faculty and CECS FacultyFellows appointed from across disciplines at UTK. Additionally, students will complete 6to 12 credit hours in research, service, and internships to further strengthen theiremployable skills, expertise, and network. These courses will be taught by CECS facultyand supported by the CECS Director for Partnerships and Engagement and the UTKCenter for Career Development to connect CECS students with future employers.

Students at UT-Knoxville must fulfill their mandatory VolCore requirement, typicallybetween 50 and 60 credit hours in multiple themes.The core courses are: AI 101, AI 102, AI 201, AI 202, AI 301, AI 399, AI 302, AI 401, and AI499. The capstone courses, AI 399 and AI499, are offered in both Spring and Fall semesters. Students can take a maximum of6 credit hours in each of the R, S, or N categories. Overall, the program offers acomprehensive, real-world relevant, and ethically-focused education in applied AI.

The BSAAI program is delivered through a hybrid approach, seamlessly combining in-person instruction with online learning components.

uTrack Requirements

Universal Tracking (uTrack) is an academic monitoring system designed to help students stay on track for timely graduation. In order to remain on track, students must complete the minimum requirements for each tracking semester, known as milestones. Milestones include successful completion of specified courses and/or attainment of a minimum GPA. uTrack requirements only affect full-time, degree-seeking students.
